Grace is an award winning filmmaker, television presenter, and the creator of Lux Lucis’ Hybrid movie projects. Her acclaimed documentary Where the Sun Rises (also known as A Hero's Journey) featured Xanana Gusmao, the former guerrilla leader who became the first President of an independent East Timor. The film won Amnesty International's Movies that Matter Award, the Special Jury Prize from the American Film Institute International Film Festival, and a Gold Award for cinematography from the Australian Cinematographers Society. It has been released in cinemas, licensed for television internationally, translated into 8 languages and screened in over 20 countries.
During her 8 years as a top anchor on CNBC and ABC Asia Pacific, Grace was named Best News Presenter at the 2000 Asian Television Awards, and nominated Best News Anchor in the 2002 New York Festivals. Harper’s Bazaar magazine recognised her as one of the “10 Most Influential Women of the New Power Generation”. Prior to her move into media, she worked at investment banks JP Morgan and Banque Paribas, specialising in emerging markets bonds and derivatives.
Grace has been patron of an orphanage, medical clinic, and women and children's foundation in East Timor since 2004, and an active supporter of a nutrition and education programme in Afghanistan since 2009.
An avid art lover, she curated exhibitions of German sculptor Ernst Gamperl and Singaporean ceramicist Jessie Lim.
She is passionate about wildlife and is an amateur naturalist, travelling to the jungles of Borneo and to Antarctica. Her love of adventure has taken her under the sea to dive and film with giant manta rays in Mexico, and to the sky where she flies a microlight. The depth and breadth of her interests have led her to travel extensively, enabling her to tackle with insight a wide range of subjects and issues.
Grace studied international relations at l'Institut d'Etudes Politiques in Paris, and the School of Foreign Service at the American University in Washington D.C. She speaks English, French, Mandarin, Indonesian, Japanese and rudimentary Dari Persian. |

シンガポール在住の映像作家。彼女の長編ドキュメンタリー作品「Where the Sun Rises (太陽の昇る場所)」（「ヒーローズ・ジャーニー」としても知られている）は、アメリカン・フィルム・インスティテュート国際映画祭で審査員特別賞を受賞。アムネスティ・インターナショナルの Movies that Matter Award（問題提起賞）や、オーストラリア撮影者協会のゴールドアウォード も受賞し、８カ国語に翻訳され22カ国で上映された。
CNBC、ABCアジアパシフィックなどの放送局では８年にわたってニュース番組のアンカーパーソンとして活躍し、世界の経済、ビジネス、社会問題など広範なニュース報道に携わった。2000年のアジア・テレビジョン・アウォードではベスト・ニュース・プレゼンター賞を受賞。2002年にはニューヨーク国際放送祭でベスト・ニュース・アンカー賞にノミネートされた。ハーパース・バザー誌の「最も影響力のある新世代の女性１０人」にも選ばれた。
メディアの仕事に携わる以前には欧米の大手金融機関で、インベストメントバンカーとして新興国市場の債券やデリバティブを専門とし、ニューヨーク、東京、香港、ロンドンなどで活躍した。
社会奉仕事業の実践者として大学や教育機関での講演も活発に行っている。2004年以来、東ティモールでは孤児院や病院、女性や子供のための支援基金を後援し、2009年からはアフガニスタンで子供のための栄養教育プログラムを支援している。
アートをこよなく愛し、ドイツの彫刻家エルンスト・ガンペールやシンガポールの陶芸家ジェシー・リムらの展覧会を企画した。自然や野生動物にも造詣が深く、ボルネオのジャングル、南極大陸、メキシ
コで様々な動物を観察。地球に生きとし生けるものへの尽きせぬ興味から、世界中の秘境でのダイビング、超軽量飛行機での飛行など様々な冒険を重ねてきた。
中国系インドネシア人の両親のもとシンガポールで生まれた。パリ政治学院で国際関係を学び、ワシントンのアメリカンユニバーシティでも国際関係論を修めた。英語、フランス語、中国語、インドネシア語を話し、カタコトの日本語、ペルシャ語を勉強し始めたところ。 |
